Harriet M. Ellis, an active member of many charitable organizations, died Friday in her North Tonawanda home. She was 85.
A lifelong resident of the Buffalo area, the former Harriet Michaels graduated from Buffalo Seminary and Wellesley College. She married her husband of 55 years, Michael F. "Mickey" Ellis Jr., in 1947. He died in 2003.
During the 1970s, she served as co-president of the Amherst High School PTA with her husband. Later, she served as president of the Buffalo chapter of the National Council of Jewish Women. She also was a longtime member of the Wellesley Club and served as its treasurer. She was active on the archives committee at Temple Beth Zion and was a member of the League of Women Voters.
She is survived by three sons, Michael F. III, Charles and Steven; a daughter, Katherine Ellis-Donnor; and a brother, Albert Michaels.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Temple Beth Zion, 805 Delaware Ave.
