One day after its national title hopes ended at the NJCAA Division II Tournament, Erie Community College lost its third-place game to Triton College (Ill.) in overtime, 102-98.
God'sgift Achuiwa scored 24 points and had 15 boards. Dequan Jones had 21 points, Isiah Boyd added 14 points with 13 rebounds, Tyshawn Edwards had 16 points and Jahmill Jenkins had 12.
Jones' potential game-tying three-pointer with six seconds left rimmed out, Triton controlled the rebound and made a free throw to ice the win.
The Kats (28-4) had several bad bounces late. With 2:14 to go, and ECC trailing 97-93, Edwards drove into the lane and made a difficult running tear drop. But what appeared to be a crucial bucket that had cut the lead to two was called a charging foul on Edwards.
"I'm proud of how all the kids played today, coming back from a tough loss last night," ECC head coach Alex Nwora said.
