First Niagara Financial Group named Siobhan Smith senior vice president, senior director, organizational development. Most recently, Smith was senior director in Human Resources at New Era Cap Co. She has both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from Canisius College.

Northwestern Mutual in Williamsville appointed Matthew Holleran managing director. Halleran has been associated with the company since 2002, most recently as managing director in the Syracuse office of the Greater New York Group. He is a Cornell University graduate.

Canisius High School named Trey McDermid vice president of advancement. McDermid is a class of 1985 alumnus of the school. Most recently, McDermid was the owner and operator of Frontier Lumber Co. He graduated from Canisius College.

Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute in Buffalo appointed Tricia A. Furnari director of development. Most recently, Furnari was the development director at Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper. She received a master's degree from Portland State University's Mark O. Hatfield School of Government in Portland, Ore., and a bachelor's degree from Cornell University.

National Fuel Gas Co. named Amy L. Shiley general manager for the human resources and payroll departments, and Ron Haener general manager for the consumer business department in the New York and Pennsylvania divisions of National Fuel Gas Distribution Corp., the utility segment of National Fuel. With the company since 1991, Shiley is a graduate from Syracuse University and obtained a master's degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Haener, who joined the company in 1981, graduated from Mercyhurst College.

The law firm Damon Morey named Eileen Connor-Costilow director of human resources, and Tava Shanchuk director of marketing. A graduate from Fredonia State College, Connor-Costilow obtained her master's degree from the University at Buffalo. She most recently worked at Lumsden & McCormick. Shanchuk, was the former director of public relations at the Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute in the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. She received both a master's and a bachelor's degree from Canisius College.
