Calvary installs pastor

The Rev. Quinton C. Foster will be installed as pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, 1184 Genesee St., during a 4 p.m. service on March 27.

The Rev. Stanley T. Hillard of Houston will preach.

Foster, a Houston native, is a fifth-generation preacher and pastor. He studied at American Baptist College in Nashville, Tenn.

Consecration of bishop

Bishop-elect Larry A. Boyd, pastor of Open Praise Full Gospel Baptist Church, will be consecrated as bishop primate of the United Coalition of Churches at 6:30 p.m. April 1 in Open Praise Church, 761 Fillmore Ave.

An Episcopal luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. April 2 in Banchetti's, 550 N. French Road, Amherst. Call the church for tickets, 895-8755. g

Pastor appointed

The Rev. Brandon K. Allen was recently appointed as pastor of Agape African Methodist Episcopal Church, 224 Northland Ave.

Allen is a 2008 graduate of Paine College in Georgia and will complete a master's degree in divinity at Union Theological Seminary later this year.

Bach performance

Westminster Presbyterian Church, 724 Delaware Ave., will host a special worship service with a performance of the Bach "Missa in B Minor" at 11 a.m. March 27.

The church's chamber ensemble will be accompanied by the playing of the historic Aeolian Skinner organ.

The work, considered one of the great musical achievements of Western civilization, will constitute the entire worship service.

Celebrating St. Francis

Author, filmmaker and network television producer Gerard T. Straub, who also is a Secular Franciscan, will offer a multimedia presentation, "Prayer and Poverty," at 7 p.m. March 27 in St. Aloysius Gonzaga Church, 157 Cleveland Drive, Cheektowaga.

Straub is founder and former president of the San Damiano Foundation, which produces films that celebrate the spirituality of St. Francis of Assisi and the Franciscan concern for the poor, social justice, nonviolence, prayer and the integrity of creation.

His presentation is part of Lenten Journey 2011 at St. Aloysius parish.

Straub also will be guest speaker at 3 p.m. March 27 at the spring academic honors convocation of Villa Maria College, 240 Pine Ridge Road. The talk will be in the college auditorium.
