ECC falls short in semifinal

DANVILLE, Ill.-- The championship run came to an end for the Erie Community College men's basketball team late Friday night.

The Kats dropped a 90-72 decision to Lincoln (Ill.) College in the semifinals of the NJCAA Division II Tournament at the Danville Area Community College.

Lincoln, the defending national champions, used a 12-3 run in the final three minutes of the first half to open a 42-32 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Kats made several mini-runs but failed to create any consistency to seriously challenge. Erie scored two quick buckets off turnovers to cut the lead to 12, 66-54, midway in the second half, but Lincoln started to handle the press and the Kats started missing shots.

ECC shot just 12 of 37 in the second half and shot 32.8 percent from the field for the game (23 of 70).

Sophomore forward Tyshawn Edwards (Grover Cleveland) had 15 points and seven rebounds for ECC (28-3).

The Kats will play in the third-place game of the double-elimination tournament at 6:30 tonight against Triton College (Ill.).

The Lynx (27-7) were led by DeMarius Sumerel's 17 points.
