ECC's bargain meal deals

Diners hungry for value have already homed in on lunch at Erie Community College's student-run restaurants at North and City campuses.

Lunch is served at both the City Campus (121 Ellicott St.) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and the North Campus (6205 Main St., Williamsville), Tuesday through Thursday. Both are closed for spring break next week, reopening on March 28 with menus featuring Asian Pacific Rim cuisine, like sushi plates, Asian marinated flank steak, pad thai and tandoori chicken.

As befitting cooking and service by students, the meals are bargains, with lunch dishes priced at $2.25 to $8.50. "We have a lot of repeat customers," said Mark Wright, ECC culinary instructor. "Groups and business folks come in, and we get a lot of mature adults who come in for a nice lunch."

This semester, ECC has added Wednesday night dinners at the North Campus' Statler Erie Room Restaurant, in the Spring Student Center. The prix fixe meal is four courses for $16.95. Appetizers so far have included mussels, shrimp, crab cakes and foie gras, Wright said; entrees have included steak au poivre, tenderloin and halibut.

As you might expect, reservations are required for Wednesday's prix fixe dinner deal, available from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Call 270-5199. (More information: elinks.ecc.edu/dining).
