Alan A. Meister of Cheektowaga, a deacon at Infant of Prague Catholic Church and a retired engineer, died Friday in Schofield Residence, Town of Tonawanda. He was 80.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. Meister was a graduate of South Park High School and later served in the Navy as an airman aviation electronic technician. He enlisted in the Navy in January 1952 and was discharged in September 1953. He studied engineering while in the Navy and later earned an engineering degree from Empire State College.
In the 1960s, he began work as an engineer for Bell Aerosystems. He subsequently worked at Calspan in engineering from 1970 until his retirement 20 years later.
In retirement, he studied at Christ the King Seminary, becoming a deacon in 1993, earning a bachelor's degree in 1995 and a master's degree of arts in pastoral ministry in 1997.
Family members said Mr. Meister was dedicated to his ministry work.
An avid golfer, he was a member of Fox Valley Country Club.
His wife of 42 years, Lois M. Pfeiffer Meister, died in 1996.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Beth Ochs, and two sons, William A. and Keith G.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. today in Infant of Prague Church, 921 Cleveland Drive, Cheektowaga.
