>ECC wins 15th straight

With 37 points from God's Gift Achiuwa, the Erie Community College men's basketball team earned a 105-80 win over Genesee Community College at the Flickinger Center Saturday afternoon.

Achiuwa scored 20 of those points in the second half as the Kats (18-1), ranked No. 2 in the NCJCAA Division II poll, won their 15th straight game.

Dequan Jones recorded a triple double with 10 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists for the Kats.


>Medaille sweeps Franciscan

Both the men's and women's basketball teams from Medaille earned wins over Franciscan in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference games.

The women, ranked No. 25 in the poll, had four players in double figures in a 78-46 win. Meghan Dougherty (Nichols) and Tanisha Travis each scored 18 for the Lady Mavericks (17-2, 12-1 AMCC) while Amanda Sahhar (Orchard Park) had 13 and Tara Caples 11.

Angel Flores led the men's team with 12 points as the Mavericks' 80-40 win was their sixth straight. Phil Maiarana (St. Joe's) added 10 points for the Mavs (15-5, 11-2 AMCC).


>Buffalo State edges Cortland

Glenroy Carr hit a go-ahead layup with 33 seconds left and added a late free throw as Buffalo State earned a 70-68 win over Cortland in a State University of New York Athletic Conference men's basketball game.

The Red Dragons pulled ahead, 68-67, with less than a minute remaining, but Carr's late layup put the Bengals back in front. Carr hit one of two free throws with 16 seconds left to seal the win. Jake Simmons led the Bengals (11-6, 6-5 SUNYAC) with 23 points while Justin Mitchell (Timon) had 13 points and 16 rebounds.
