KAUFFMAN, Wilma E. "Willie"

KAUFFMAN - Wilma E. (nee Endress) "Willie"
86, (formerly of Eden and Alden, NY) passed gently from this world in her sleep on January 24, 2011 at home in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Born in Warren, PA on January 29, 1924, she was the daughter of Robert and Ethel (Gidner) Endress. She graduated from Grove City College and the Millard Fillmore School of Nursing in Buffalo, NY. She pursued a career in nursing for 50 years in labor and delivery and retired from The Erie County Home where she was employed as a Nursing Supervisor. Wilma was an avid seamstress, knitter, quilter and baker. Willie formed the "Eden Pinafores" 4-H Club and led the girls to many blue ribbon awards at the county fair. She could "whip up" a dress for any occasion in a day and would design her own knitting patterns for her grandchildren's sweaters. She also donated her creations to various charities. Puzzles were also her passion; jigsaw, crossword and pondering what made her family members "tick". She loved to travel (anywhere and anytime) and was planning another trip to the FL Keys until her travel plans were altered. But most will remember her for her fun filled spirit and zest for life. This was often demonstrated in her humorous poetry. Willie and her husband Bob made their home in Eden until 1968 when they moved to Alden following Bob's promotion to supervising ENCON officer. Together they taught their children much about the care of the orphaned wildlife that were brought home for rehabilitation.. In 2010 she relocated to Charleston, S.C. with her son and daughter in law and enjoyed the great southern hospitality. Her greatest joy in later years was her role as mother, grandmother and especially being a great grandmother, a role she was looking forward to repeating in August. Wilma was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Robert B, in 2006, her daughter, Marcia, in 2004 and her brothers, DeLyle ("De") and Donald ("Mike"). She is survived and much loved by her daughters, Kathleen (Edward) Riefler of Marcellus, NY, Dr. Barbara Kauffman of Geneva NY, and her son, Robert (Joanne) Kauffman of Mt. Pleasant, SC. and her beloved grandchildren, Ryan (Ryann) Riefler of Marietta, NY, Devin (Maureen Sloan) Riefler of Austin, TX, Kyle (Nicole) Riefler of Tampa, FL, Katherine Kauffman and Natalie Kauffman. Also surviving her is her "latest and greatest joy", her great granddaughter Lorelei Riefler. She leaves behind two sisters, Neva Ladner and Kay Farynowski and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Friday January 28th at the DONALD M. DEMMERLEY FUNERAL HOME INC., 21 Pierce Ave., Hamburg, NY, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A memorial service to celebrate Wilma's life will be held at 11 AM on Saturday January 29th at Nativity Lutheran Church, 970 Main St., East Aurora, NY 14052, with burial at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in Hamburg, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Wilma's name may be made to WELCA committee c/o Nativity Lutheran Church.
