Drop the Lime - born Luca Venezia and also fond of performing beneath the moniker Curses! -- is the latest underground electronic music impresario to include Buffalo in his tour plans. Venezia will stop by Soundlab at 9:30 tonight.
As a producer who has worked with the likes of Moby, Robyn, Blaqstarr and Little Boots, Drop the Lime has proven his worth in the arena of mainstream dance music. But there's far more to the man than a penchant for planting hip breaks in pop tunes. As head of the Trouble and Bass label, and through his renowned DJ sets, Venezia has moved gracefully between breakcore, dancehall, house, techno, dubstep and electro.
Which means that tonight's Soundlab show should be a mind-melter. Particularly when you factor in opening sets from Mario Bee, Lethal Weapon and Big Basha. It's $12 at the door.
Two shows at 136 Loft Commons, 136 N. Division St.: Saturday, It's a Firefight! will perform its farewell show beginning at 8 p.m. On Thursday, a pair of Pittsburgh chamber-pop acts -- Donora and Lohio -- perform at 8 p.m.
