Uniland secures $5.72 million federal deal; Airborne Parkway lease to house a division of Homeland Security

A division of the federal Department of Homeland Security will occupy 23,877 square feet of space in a Cheektowaga office park under a new $5.72 million federal contract with Uniland Development Co.

Uniland said it won the contract with the U.S. General Services Administration's Public Buildings Service for a long-term lease to the government agency at 300 Airborne Parkway. That's in the Airborne Business Park on Holtz Drive, near the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

Additional information on the lease and specific tenant agency was not available.

The 108,000-square-foot, three story building at 300 Airborne is the newest facility in the park. The modern building is comprised of curved metal panels, spandrel glass accents and an expansive tinted glass window system designed to allow daylight into the building, Uniland said. It also features 36,000-square-foot floor plates and broad column spacing for efficient layouts.

"We pride ourselves on offering the type of Class A office space, property management services and amenities that clients like the Department of Homeland Security expect," said Michael Montante, vice president at Uniland.

Uniland is the largest developer of office and industrial parks in the Buffalo and Rochester areas, operating more than 130 properties and developing more than 12 million square feet of space since 1974.

The firm is currently progressing with a pair of construction projects at the CrossPoint Business Park in Amherst. Uniland is putting up a 90,000-square-foot office building for Fidelis Care New York, which is more than doubling the size of its local office as it undergoes an expansion that could create up to 139 new jobs over two years.

The Catholic health insurer, which provides government-sponsored health care programs and employs 429, is moving its back-office facility from 40,300 square feet at 40 John Glenn Drive in the Audubon Industrial Park to 480 CrossPoint Parkway.

The company said it has outgrown its current facility, while the new $15.3 million building will have room to accommodate future growth. The move will also allow the firm to operate from a single facility tailored to its needs.

The project, which is expected to be completed this summer, already received $2.9 million in tax breaks from the Amherst Industrial Development Agency.

Fidelis provides government-sponsored health care coverage, such as Child Health Plus, Family Health Plus, or Medicaid, in 50 counties across the state, with 590,000 members that have access to more than 37,000 health care providers. It also offers a Medicare Advantage program to senior citizens in 22 counties and a combined Medicare and Medicaid plan in 17 counties.

The company has regional offices in Amherst, Syracuse, Albany and Rego Park, with satellite offices in Rochester, Poughkeepsie and Suffern.

Additionally, Uniland is building a 26,000-square-foot community Event Center for The Chapel. The megachurch is already in CrossPoint.
