Conacher key for Griffs
Cory Conacher became the all-time leading goal-scorer for Canisius in the Division I era as his two goals helped the Golden Griffins best American International College, 6-4, in Atlantic Hockey Sunday.
AIC had taken a 1-0 lead when Conacher tied the game on a tip-in in the first period. Conacher then one-timed a shot while the Griffs were on a five-on-three power play 2:37 into the second. That gave the senior forward his 51st career goal and the Griffs (7-11-5, 6-6-4 AH) the lead for good.
"It feels great," Conacher said of his record, which put him past Jason Weeks, who finished his career last year in the top spot with 50 goals. "I have to give all the credit to my linemates, my teammates and my coaches. Vincent Scarsella gets a lot of the credit as he's closing in on the assist record and a lot of his assists were on my goals."
Scarsella (St. Francis) netted a power-play goal to give the Griffs a 3-1 lead.
ECC nabs win
Nick Friol had a four-point afternoon to help Erie Community College (11-5) to a 9-4 hockey win over the Elmira College JV. Friol had two goals and two assists for the third-ranked Kats (11-5).
