Alfred J. Villa, ran Buffalo Lawnmower Supplies ; March 26, 1913 -- Jan. 14, 2011

Alfred Joseph Villa, of Amherst, retired owner and operator of a lawnmower sales and repair business, died Friday in Beechwood Nursing Home, Amherst. He was 97.

Mr. Villa ran Buffalo Lawnmower Supplies, 2324 Main St. at West Oakwood Place, for more than 50 years before retiring in 2008. Previously, he worked for Samar Sales, repairing small engines.

Born in Buffalo, he was a graduate of Hutchinson-Central High School. After school, he was a taxi driver and worked for CT Villa Carting, hauling beef to New York City.

He served in the Army National Guard from 1936 to 1939, then served as a captain in the Erie County Civil Defense Police.

His wife of 59 years, the former Helen Vinceguerra, died in 1997.

Surviving are a son, Gary, and two daughters, Janet Barillari and Judi.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Sauer-Lynett-Amigone Funeral Home, 1933 Kensington Ave., Cheektowaga.
