The Pacifica Quartet boasts a Grammy Award for a recording of quartets by Elliott Carter. In 2009, the influential Musical America magazine named the group Ensemble of the Year. Last year, the quartet played Beethoven at New York's Lincoln Center, stopping in Buffalo on the way for a much-praised performance on our Slee Beethoven Quartet Series. Wherever the musicians go, it seems, they charm.
Tuesday, the Pacifica will be back in Buffalo again, this time courtesy of the Buffalo Chamber Music Society. A hit on the series before, the Pacifica will be playing the kind of varied program that is its specialty. The musicians will begin with the Quartet in E Flat by Fanny Mendelssohn, the talented sister of Felix. The evening continues with Jennifer Higdon's "Voices," then concludes with Schubert's beautiful and devastating "Death and the Maiden" Quartet.
The performance takes place at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Mary Seaton Room of Kleinhans Music Hall. Admission is $20. For information, call 462-4939.
