Jane M. Orlowski, assistant director with Red Cross; July 7, 1956 -- Jan. 6, 2011

Jane M. Orlowski, a mother of three who served as assistant director of health services for the American Red Cross, died Thursday in Roswell Park Cancer Institute after a nine-month battle with leukemia. She was 54.

Born in Buffalo, the former Jane M. Miller graduated from Kenmore East High School and earned a bachelor of science degree in recreation from Brockport State College, graduating magna cum laude.

A Town of Tonawanda homemaker, Mrs. Orlowski also had worked at Roswell Park as a cancer information specialist for the National Institute of Health.

Mrs. Orlowski was active in the PTA for Hamilton Elementary School in the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda School District and served as president.

Survivors include her husband of 23 years, David J.; three sons, Daniel J., James W. and Jacob E.; her father, E. William Miller; a sister, Lynda M. Vandermeer; and a brother, Gary W. Miller.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Deerhurst Presbyterian Church, 257 Deerhurst Park Blvd., Town of Tonawanda.
