Robert C. Ulmer, owner and operator of Davis-Ulmer Sprinkler Co., died unexpectedly Wednesday in Boca Raton, Fla., where he was a seasonal resident. He was 81.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. Ulmer was a 1947 graduate of Kenmore High School and attended the University of Missouri College of Engineering. He served as a forward observer with the Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Mr. Ulmer was the first employee of Davis-Ulmer Sprinkler, which was founded in 1946 by his father, Herman, and Joseph Davis. Headquartered in Amherst, the business operates in several locations in New York State.
He took over as president of the company in 1965 and retired in 1998.
Mr. Ulmer was a member of Brookfield Country Club and Rotary Club of Buffalo.
Survivors include his wife, the former M.G. Putman; two daughters, Katherine Parkinson and Lois Szymanski; and two sons, Steven and Paul.
