Marshall-St. Bonaventure game analysis

Game analysis: Marshall was picked to finish in the middle of the pack in Conference USA? Hard to believe there are too many teams in the league better than the Herd, who had their way with St. Bonaventure on Sunday, 74-65.

Why St. Bonaventure lost: Rebounding. Bona was killed on the glass, 39-23.

Turning point: Bona cut the lead to three for the last time on two free throws by Nicholson with 4:33 left. Then Shaq Johnson hit a jumper and Tirrell Baines tipped in a miss by Johnson. Johnson popped another jump shot and Baines added two free throws and the lead was back to double digits. The Bonnies couldn’t get closer than seven points for the rest of the game.

Player of the game: Damier Pitts poured in 25 points and drained 5 of 9 shooting from three-point range.

Stat of the game: Both teams were whistled for 24 fouls each.

He said it: “We knew Nicholson was going to get his but we wanted to make other people who had to beat us instead of him. When knew that [Ogo Adegboye] controlled their team, he loved to get his and [Michael Davenport] was a shooter.’’ - Marshall guard Shaq Johnson

What it means: The Bonnies fall to 7-5 on the season and have a road game at Arkansas-Little Rock before A-10 play begins against Charlotte at the Reilly Center next Saturday.

In the house: 3,229

Next up: The Bonnies play at Arkansas-Little Rock on Wednesday.
