Dr. Bernard C. Muscato, the former chief of medical staff at Mercy Hospital, died Monday at his Orchard Park home. He was 67.
Dr. Muscato was born in Dunkirk and was a graduate of Dunkirk High School and the University of Notre Dame.
He received his medical degree from the University at Buffalo School of Medicine in 1969 and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology from St. Louis University.
He practiced as a partner at Hamburg OB/GYN for 31 years, retiring in 2005. During this time, he served as chief of OB/GYN and chief of medical staff at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo.
During his retirement, he volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program.
Surviving are his wife, Therese; two daughters, Dr. Christa and Dr. Nicole; and a son, Dr. Mark; a sister, Judy Owens; stepchildren Scott Mercer, Michelle Mercer and Brian Mercer.
Funeral services were held Thursday at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, Orchard Park.
