Buffalo police are searching for the gunman who walked into a Clinton Street deli Thursday morning and shot the owner.
The victim was rushed to Erie County Medical Center after he was shot in the leg at the Clinton Express deli at 1270 Clinton St. in the Clinton-Babcock neighborhood.
He was identified as Ahmed Alokam, 44, and is in stable condition, police said.
Two men, one wearing sunglasses and a scarf over his face, went into the store around 8:15 a.m. and confronted the owner, authorities said. One of the men pulled out a revolver and shot the owner in the leg, police said.
The intruders left without stealing anything, and police are not sure why, Detective Chief Dennis Richards said.
Police said they are looking at a store security videotape as they continue their investigation. Officers recovered a car that they believe was used as a getaway vehicle.
"The man who was shot is the owner, and he's going to be OK," a store employee told The Buffalo News later in the day. He declined to comment further.
The small deli is located at the intersection of Clinton and Gilbert Avenue.
