Black Rock man accused of sex attack on woman

A Black Rock man was charged Monday with rape for allegedly attacking a woman several times between Dec. 20 and Sunday, Buffalo police said.

Van T. Cung, 27, of Kail Street, also forced the victim to withdraw $800 on her debit card, police said. Cung also was charged with grand larceny and criminal contempt, police said.

Amherst police probe gunfire in holdup bid

An attempted robbery at about 10:30 p.m. Monday in northwest Amherst may have involved shots fired, Amherst police said.

The attempted robbery occurred near Pheasant Run and Cascade Drive. Police said a 19-year-old man called police to report he and a friend were followed by four men.

The teen said two of the men stopped him in the street and displayed a handgun and threatened to rob him. As he tried to flee, he heard shots fired, police said, and fled to a nearby home and called police.

Buffalo man robbed at Metro Rail station

A Buffalo man was robbed at about 7 p.m. Monday at the LaSalle Metro Rail Station, Buffalo police said.

The victim said he was approached by a young man outside the station at Main Street and LaSalle Avenue. Before a group of onlookers, the bandit told the victim to "give me what you have" and took a $200 cell phone, police said. The robber fled into the train station, police said.

Brawl at Brant store leads to arrest of driver

Several people were treated for injuries following a fight early Tuesday at Seneca One Stop in Brant, and in a related development, a Farnham man was charged with driving while intoxicated, Erie County sheriff's officials said.

Deputies responding to the store on Route 20 said they stopped a fleeing vehicle driven by Robert N. Jamison, 29, on Route 438, at about 1:30 a.m. Besides DWI, he was charged with two counts of assault, four counts of endangering the welfare of a child and weapons possession, police said. Jamison refused to submit to a breath test to determine his blood-alcohol level, sheriff's officials said. He was taken to the Erie County Holding Center, awaiting arraignment.

Man with DWI record arrested once more

A Holland man arrested late Monday was charged with felony driving while intoxicated after Erie County sheriff's deputies determined the suspect had four previous drunken-driving convictions in Erie County over the past decade.

Jeffrey A. George, 29, also was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation.

Deputies said his license had been revoked and suspended several times. He was convicted of DWI in 2001, 2002, 2006 and 2008, authorities added.

George was arrested shortly after 11 p.m., when Deputy Tim Dusza responded to a complaint of a vehicle that had gone off Olean Road in Wales.

Cassadaga electrical fire damages seasonal home

CASSADAGA -- An unoccupied seasonal residence was damaged by an electrical fire Monday evening, Chautauqua County sheriff's officials said.

The fire on Burnham Road broke out shortly before 8:48 p.m. Cassadaga firefighters and volunteers of five other departments fought the blaze.

Chautauqua County fire investigators said the cause was electrical.

Woman pinned in crash is airlifted to ECMC

HANOVER -- A woman was taken by emergency helicopter to Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo, at about noon Tuesday after a crash on Dennison Road, Chautauqua County sheriff's officials said.

Douglas Jung, 25, of Forestville, was driving east on Dennison when he encountered blowing and drifting snow and slid into a ditch, hitting a culvert and rolling onto its side.

Jung's passenger, Nadine Huseman, 25, was pinned in the wreckage and freed by emergency crews. Her condition was not immediately available.

Craigslist rendezvous is duress for the lovelorn

An East Aurora man who agreed to meet an East Side woman he found on Craigslist said he was assaulted, undressed and robbed by the woman and a male accomplice, Buffalo police said.

The 22-year-old victim said he agreed to pick up the woman at Poplar Avenue and Doat Street at about 7:30 p.m. Monday.

When he arrived, the woman entered the car with the accomplice, who asked the man to pull over at Wisconsin Place and Doat, police said.

There, he was assaulted, forced to undress and attacked with pepper spray.

The passengers fled down Wisconsin with the man's winter coat, jeans, boots, cell phone and ID, the victim said.
