Jacob Mikula Jr., WWII vet, Bell Aerospace retiree ; Feb. 8, 1919 -- Dec. 11, 2010

Jacob J. Mikula Jr. of Depew, an Army veteran of World War II, died Dec. 11 in Weinberg Campus, Amherst, after a brief illness. He was 91.

Born in Buffalo, Mr. Mikula was a lifelong resident of this area. As an Army corporal, he served with the 573rd Bombardment Squadron in the European Theater during World War II. He was certified as an airplane and engine mechanic, and was an expert marksman.

Mr. Mikula retired in the early 1980s from Bell Aerosystems in Wheatfield, where he worked several decades as a general laborer. He also helped out at the former Valley View Inn in Alden, which was owned by his mother.

His interests included fishing and hunting, as well as hiking in Como Park.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Amigone Funeral Home, 8440 Main St., Clarence.
