Dopkins and Company, certified public accountants and consultants of Buffalo, appointed Salvatore Rizzo senior manager in the firm's Tax Advisory Group. Rizzo has more than 20 years of public accounting experience with large area firms, most recently serving as a tax principal with full responsibility for the tax practice in the Buffalo office for a regional firm. He is a Canisius College graduate. Also, the firm announced that Kathryn Mellon, a tax advisory group accountant, passed all parts of the CPA exam. Mellon, also a Canisius College graduate, joined the firm in 2008.

Ore Ajakaiye and Preetha Narayanaswamy, two MBA students from the University at Buffalo School of Management, were awarded first place at the Student Poster Session of the international conference for APICS, The Association for Operations Management, recently. The students won for their submission, "Sustainability: Driving the Strategic Imperative in Supply Chain Management." They shared first place with one other team.

Tops Friendly Markets recently celebrated the official grand reopening of former P&C stores in Norwich, Owego, Watkins Glen, Penn Yan, Towanda, Pa., and former Bi-Lo stores in Troy, Pa., Canton, Pa., and Wellsboro, Pa., under the Tops banner. At each of the eight locations, Tops made a $2,500 donation to local charitable and service organizations.

Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center is one of only 137 hospitals nationwide selected to participate in Aligning Forces for Quality, a quality improvement initiative that aims to improve the quality, efficiency and equity of care across the country and in the Greater Niagara Region. Memorial was chosen to join the hospital quality network by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, a national philanthropic organization dedicated to improving the health and health care of all Americans.

Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Buffalo recently opened a new satellite office at the Bethel AME Church, located at 1525 Michigan Ave. in Buffalo. The office will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., every other Tuesday.
