Police exam set for April 23 open to qualified candidates

Buffalo's Police Department is looking for qualified people to take the police exam on April 23.

The city, which plans to hire about 40 new police officers in the coming year, has launched a recruitment campaign aimed at encouraging people to take the exam. The deadline for registration is March 16.

To qualify, applicants must meet a number of requirements: ages 19 to 35 as of the exam date; resident of Erie, Niagara, Genesee, Wyoming, Cattaraugus or Chautauqua counties for at least 90 days prior to March 16; and at least 60 college credit hours or two years of continuous military service.

Visit www.BuffaloPoliceTest.org or contact the city's 311 calling center.

A group of police ambassadors will recruit potential candidates at local malls, colleges, universities, churches and community centers. Officials said the campaign also gives people a chance to meet one-on-one with police officers.
