Mapleview Farms moves to warehouse in Falconer

CLYMER -- Because of structural damage at its distribution food center, Maplevale Farms Inc. is moving to a warehouse in Falconer.

The damage was the result of heavy snow earlier this month. Deliveries will resume beginning Jan. 3. Maplevale will host a luncheon and tour of the new facility at noon today for employees at the new location, 2063 Allen St., Falconer.

Police exam set for April 23 open to qualified candidates

Buffalo's Police Department is looking for qualified people to take the police exam on April 23.

The city, which plans to hire about 40 new police officers in the coming year, has launched a recruitment campaign. The deadline for registration is March 16.

To qualify, applicants must meet a number of requirements: ages 19 to 35 as of the exam date; resident of Erie, Niagara, Genesee, Wyoming, Cattaraugus or Chautauqua counties for at least 90 days prior to March 16; and at least 60 college credit hours or two years of continuous military service. Annual salary approved for newly named police chief

SALAMANCA -- The Salamanca Council Tuesday night set the salary of recently appointed Police Chief Gary Wind at $62,476 per year.

The Council also approved a revenue-anticipation note of $300,000 to cover electric and sewer payments until the end of the year, because of slow cash flow.

Buffalo Niagara in running for grant to fight hunger

The top vote-getter receives $1 million for its food pantries, the next five runners-up get $100,000 apiece. As of Wednesday night, the region was in sixth place.
