KeyBank branch robbed on Amherst Street
A bank robber stole an undetermined amount of money Monday morning from the KeyBank branch at 52 Amherst St., according to Buffalo police.
The call on the robbery came in at about 9:15. Police described the robber as in his late teens or early 20s, 5-foot-6, wearing a dark hoodie, jeans, white sneakers and sunglasses.
Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call the Buffalo police TIP-CALL line at 847-2255.
Man accused of letting 14-year-old drive car
TOWN OF BATAVIA -- An 18-year-old Genesee County man has been arrested after being accused of allowing a 14-year-old to drive a motor vehicle without the owner's permission over the weekend, Genesee County sheriff's officials reported.
Deputies charged Tyler Schroeder, of Oak Street, Oakfield, with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. The vehicle was stopped Saturday night at Pratt and Kelsey roads.
Authorities said the 14-year-old will be petitioned to Genesee County Family Court.
Man accused of grabbing woman, trying to steal car
A Buffalo man faces multiple charges, including two felonies, after he allegedly held a woman against her will and tried to steal her car on Allen Street early Saturday.
The woman was putting the keys into the driver's door of her 2002 Saab when she was grabbed around the neck from behind and told to "get in the car!" according to a Buffalo police report.
Anthony Gugino, 21, of Herkimer Street, was arrested a short time later and fought with police, the report said. He was charged with second-degree attempted robbery and assaulting a police officer, both felonies.
Gugino allegedly tried to punch Officer Brian Connors in the face during the arrest.
Other charges against Gugino were unlawful imprisonment, criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.
Boy who ingested cocaine remove from his home
A 10-month-old Niagara Falls boy who last week ingested a plastic baggie that contained a small amount of cocaine residue has been removed from his home, according to Niagara Falls police.
The Ontario Avenue boy swallowed the drug while in the care of his 23-year-old father, who sought the assistance of a neighbor to make the baby vomit.
He then took the child to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, police said.
The child then was taken to Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo, where he made a full recovery, police said.
The Niagara Falls hospital notified Niagara County Child Protective Services and police, who announced their ongoing investigation Monday. The father has not been charged, and CPS placed the child in the care of an uncle, police said.
No foul play found in death of man, 69
Town of Tonawanda police say there appears to be no foul play in the death of a 69-year-old man whose body was found Monday morning on the ground in a Vulcan Street parking lot, where he apparently had been dead for some time.
The body of Cameron P. Smith was found next to the building that he owned and used as both a business and as his home.
An employee discovered the body and called for help at 6:55 a.m.
Detectives are continuing to investigate, but they have found nothing suspicious so far, they said.
Cheektowaga police seek violent assault suspect
Cheektowaga police are asking for the public's help to find a man wanted in connection with a violent domestic assault that occurred Dec. 3.
An arrest warrant is outstanding for Joseph Hechavarria, 54, who also goes by the name of David Riley.
Hechavarria is wanted for allegedly sexually assaulting his former girlfriend and stabbing her numerous times.
He is described as 5-feet, 11-inches tall, 160 pounds with a shaved head and a goatee.
Anyone with information of his whereabouts is asked to contact Cheektowaga police detectives at 686-3970.
Pedestrian hit by car on the East Side
A pedestrian was hit by a car Monday evening in the city's Broadway-Fillmore area, according to Rural/Metro Medical Services.
The pedestrian was struck at about 5:20 p.m., Rural/Metro spokesman Jay Smith said.
The person was transported to Erie County Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, Smith said.
