Kirk J. Massey, a retired Buffalo State College senior police officer, died Saturday in Kenmore Mercy Hospital, Town of Tonawanda, after a brief illness. He was 57.
A Buffalo native who had lived in the Town of Tonawanda, Mr. Massey retired in 2008.
An active volunteer firefighter, he was president of the Delaware Hose Company and a first-aid captain for the Kenmore Volunteer Fire Department. He also founded Buffalo State College's Campus Volunteer Ambulance Corp.
Mr. Massey, who attended Genesee Community College, also served in the Coast Guard Reserve.
Survivors include his wife, the former Deborah Fletcher; a daughter, Kristina; and two brothers, Mark and Ted.
