UB-Houghton Game Analysis

UB  79, Houghton 47

How UB Won: Bulls started out like they were afraid to play poorly against an interior opponent. Houghton made 4 of its first 7 shots in building a 9-5 lead. But the height and talent difference quickly became noticeable and the Bulls dominated thereafter, finishing 29 of 53 from the field and owning the boards, 41-23.

Turning Point: Yes, there was one. Freshman Javon McCrea scored three straight field goals in a 9-0 run that put UB on top, 16-11.

Player of the Game: Zach Filzen had his second straight 21-point outing for UB, going 7 of 16 from the field including 5 of 9 from beyond the arc.

Play of the Game: Say hello to Bulls freshman guard Corey Raley-Ross, who spiced things up with a soaring dunk off a baseline drive. He scored a career-high 16 in a career-high 23 minutes.

Stat of the Game: UB bench 34, Houghton bench 4.

Stat of the Game II: Byron Mulkey, No. 2 in the country in steals at almost 4 per game, produced 2 in 23 minutes.

In the House: Game was a late addition to UB schedule after Central Florida backed out. Admission was free with the students on break and 1,173 attended.

Next Up: Bulls will practice through Wednesday then reconvene the night after Christmas as they prep for a Dec. 30 visit by 16th-ranked BYU and All-American candidate Jimmer Fredette.
