Niagara women fall to Albany in first meeting

LEWISTON -- Niagara women are trailing Albany, 35-22 after one half here at the Gallagher Center at Niagara University.

Albany sophomore Ebone Henry is leading all scoring with 10 points, while freshman Noelle Zletni leads Niagara with eight. That's a career-high for Zletni.

This is the first-ever meeting between Niagara (1-7) and Albany (6-3) and while the Purple Eagles are looking for their second win, they're going to have to do it without sophomore Kayla Stroman, who before injuring her MCL in the team's Dec. 9 loss to Hofstra, was averaging 12 points per game.

7:58 remaining: The Great Danes are racing away with this game, leading the Purple Eagles now, 53-29. Albany junior Cassandra Callaway is ahead of the pack in scoring with 11 points.

FINAL: Albany 63, Niagara 47. Niagara freshman Katie Gattuso and Albany's Callaway led all scoring with 13 points each. Albany's Julie Forster grabbed 14 boards and put up nine points.

Niagara's Liz Flooks, who was honored before the game for becoming the 21st member of NU's 1,000-point club, had four points and nine rebounds.
