Ciminelli Development Co. is getting a $97,500 state grant to help cover the costs of preparing the Muir Woods multiuse community in Amherst for development.
Empire State Development Corp., meeting in New York City, awarded a Build Now NY grant to the commercial real estate developer to offset prepermitting costs for engineering studies, legal fees, economic analysis and site design at Muir Woods. That's a 102-acre community that is part of the original Audubon New Community District in west Amherst north of University at Buffalo's North Campus.
The goal of Ciminelli's work is to have the 326-acre site designated as "shovel-ready," giving the state another option for attracting and winning fast-track high-technology projects.
Ciminelli's plans for Muir Woods, which is located north of the Lockport Expressway exit at Audubon Parkway, call for development on 110 acres, with offices for research and development and commercial use, plus 136 single-family and patio homes. The project, first proposed in 2001, already received approval for rezoning by the Amherst Town Board.
The funding, however, depends on final passage of the state budget.
