Burglars steal cash and car

Burglars took an estimated $35,000 worth of cash, jewelry and silverware from a Lyman Road home Monday, and then stole the victim's car, Amherst police said.

The thieves ransacked the home, flipped over furniture and took about $10,000 in cash, along with necklaces, earrings and other jewelry valued at about $20,000. A few thousand dollars worth of silverware also was stolen.

Also taken was the residents' 2004 Lincoln Town Car, a blue vehicle with the New York license-plate number APC-7188.

The break-in occurred between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday. Residents found the front door unlocked, but it's not clear how the burglars gained entry.

"Somehow, somebody entered the home and spent a fair amount of time in there," Assistant Police Chief Timothy M. Green said.

Anyone with any information about the car or the burglary is asked to call Amherst police at 689-1333.
