Five Spot /Quick hitters on the light side

1. MARATHON MEN

Edwin Jackson of the Diamondbacks threw 149 pitches in his no-hitter against the Rays on Friday. The next day, he called tennis player John Isner for advice on how to rebound physically when you're really, really tired.

2. THIS WAS LESS IMPORTANT

Germany defeated England, 4-1, on Sunday in the Round of 16 in the World Cup. It was Germany's most one-sided win over England in anything since about, oh, 1940.

3. GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

Carlos Zambrano received an indefinite suspension from the Cubs for a dugout outburst on Friday. Zambrano could have used the calm, rational voice of ex-teammate Milton Bradley to soothe his nerves.

4. ROOKIE HURLER

Britain's Prince Harry threw out the first pitch before Saturday's game between the Mets and Twins in New York. The pitch was high, so after the game the Prince was assigned to the Bisons to work on his mechanics.

5. MISERY LOVES COMPANY

Memphis city officials say the Pyramid Arena, former home of the Grizzlies, will be converted into a Bass Pro Shop. Yeah, we've heard that one before.
