BULLETIN: The starting time for Saturday's third round have been advanced considerably in anticipation of heavy afternoon rain. The field will be sent off on both nines beginning at 7 a.m., with the leaders anticipated to be on the course no later than 9:30 and probably earlier. Cut size will be the determining factor.
2:20 p.m.: Magical round of 66 by Cristie Kerr opens a five-shot lead. Low round of the tournament to this point came despite Kerr hitting just four of 14 fairways. How well did she recover? She found 16 of 18 greens in regulation. There are also five 67s on the board today, so conditions are ripe for someone to make a move. However, first-round tri-leader Stacy Lewis is backtracking (1 over thru 7). Ditto first-round tri-leader Son Hwa Lee (4 over thru 6). Michelle Wie even on day to this point and already 10 shots off the pace.
1:13 p.m.: Kerr playing solid round. Still 2 under and up two strokes on Mika Miyazato and Stacy Lewis. Lewis just bogeyed No. 3 after opening birdie-birdie. Here's a beef. The electronic scoreboard on the 18th inundates spectators with advertisements. The occasional ad is fine. But they way overdo it. I mean, it's the final hole of a major championship. Be nice to see the commitment to the players and the specators instead of the sponsors.
Welcome to Pittsford. Based on the early groups conditions appear fixed for scoring today. Jimin Kang is 5 under through 14 holes and 3 under for the tournament. Cristie Kerr is 2 under through 10 and holds sole possession of the lead at 6 under. Weather is cloudy and breezy, although the winds have tapered quite a bit from Thursday's opening round. Crowds have picked up, too.
