This summer, St. Paul's Cathedral is rolling out the red carpet and welcoming home young men whose careers were sparked in childhood by their involvement with the St. Paul's Choir of Men and Boys. The concerts are called "Triumphant Returns." The first, a recital featuring baritone Malcolm Merriweather, takes place tonight.
Merriweather, not quite 25, graduated in 2007 from Syracuse University with a bachelor's degree in music education with performance honors, summa cum laude. While a student at Syracuse, he directed Orange Appeal, Syracuse University's only all-male a cappella group, and led the group to triumph in the International Competition of Collegiate A Cappella. Merriweather has sung with the Syracuse Opera and Rochester's Eastman Opera Theater. He now lives in Rochester, where he directs the Rochester Boys Choir.
His concert takes place at 7:30 p.m. today at St. Paul's Cathedral, 128 Pearl St. Admission is free. For information, call 842-6933.
