PARTY ON THE PORTICO: The Buffalo & Erie County Historical Society will host the fifth annual Party on the Portico summer happy hours series, starting Friday, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the museum, 25 Nottingham Court at Elmwood Avenue. Guests will enjoy live music with John and Mary and the Valkyries, a cash bar, appetizers, free 15-minute minitours of the museum and great views of Mirror Lake, Delaware Park and the Japanese Garden. The series runs through the summer for three Friday evenings, featuring some of Western New York's most popular musical acts. YOUTH OF THE YEAR AWARDS: The Boys & Girls Clubs of Buffalo will host AkidEMY, a family-oriented night of celebration for club members and their families with a special emphasis on recognizing outstanding achievements by youth enrolled in the after-school program, from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Town Ballroom, 681 Main St. The event features entertainment by youth groups from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Buffalo, including music, dance and poetry. Seven Youth of the Year nominees will be highlighted in short video segments throughout the program. The winner will be revealed at the conclusion of the program. BOOK SALE: Friends of the East Aurora Library will sponsor a used book sale to benefit the library from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church, Main and Paine streets. 5K RACE, IRISH NIGHT: St. Mary of the Lake School will host a 5K race and Irish Night at 6 p.m. Saturday at the school, 4737 Lake Shore Road, Hamburg. Entry fee is $25 for adults and $10 for children 10 and younger. Irish Night, restricted to those 21 and older, will be held in the school gym after the race.

GARDEN TOUR: The Parkside Community Association's annual Garden Tour will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, beginning in Church of the Good Shepherd at Jewett Parkway and Summit Avenue, directly across from the Darwin Martin House complex. Information and maps will be available the day of the tour. More than 50 gardens will be displayed. Donations of $5 to the Parkside Community Association will be accepted.
