Video: Lawn mowers, racing combine for Father's Day tradition on Grand Island

A tradition that began on Father's Day in 1978 is back.

The Grand Island Lawn Mower Race, an annual event which resurfaced last year, happens this afternoon on West River Road.

1:30 p.m.: Proceeds from this year's event will again be donated to the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life on Grand Island, which took place June 4.

Last year, the event raised about $2,000 for the relay, said Mary Dunbar-Daluisio, chairwoman of the relay.

This year, participation in the lawn mower races seems to have doubled, so organizers expect an even bigger donation, Dunbar-Daluisio said.
