Pirates start firings ... with a pierogi!

NUU6fXtT The pathetic Pirates have lost 12 straight, are on their way to their 18th straight losing season and had to admit Thursday they've extended GM Neil Huntington and manager John Russell through 2011 to stem media speculation one or both were on the verge of getting canned. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette columnist Ron Cook ripped the team up one side and down the other over that charade.

Then comes this story: One of the team's racing pierogis is out at the plate -- literally. The 24-year-old kid got canned for mocking the team on his Facebook page over the extensions. His Mom had plenty to say about that one.

The Pierogi race is one of the staples between innings at PNC Park, one of the neatest ballparks in the bigs. Too bad such a joke of a franchise calls it home.
