Urban mural

A large tree with roots set in Black Rock community bedrock will be the focus and foundation of a new mural sponsored by Emerging Leaders in the Arts Buffalo (ELAB), 464 Gallery and the Grant Amherst Business Association. Members of Black Rock will help cultivate the mural and paint individual leaves throughout the summer on weekends.

ELAB is a local chapter of the Americans for the Arts Emerging Leaders network. Its goal is to encourage and inspire the next generation of arts managers, patrons and artists by providing them with leadership development resources. Fledgling artists can make use of the ELAB's networks and workshops to further their careers.

The mural kick-off will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Rediscover Amherst Street Festival, with a paint-breaking ceremony at 1 p.m. ELAB and Black Rock community members will prime the building's wall. In addition, Marissa Lehner, ELAB public art works and fundraising chairwoman, as well as ELAB president Marcus L. Wise, will be available to speak with community members.
