Ralph E. Wild, of Lancaster, a retired office manager at Lancaster Machine Knife Works, died Monday in Greenfield Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Lancaster. He was 90.
Born in Alden, he was a 1937 graduate of Lancaster High School, where he ran track. He set the school record for the mile, at 4 minutes and 44 seconds, which stood for many years. He also ran track for the downtown Buffalo YMCA.
Mr. Wild was employed by Lancaster Machine Knife Works for 45 years, retiring in 1983.
He served on the board of directors of the Niagara Lutheran Home and was secretary for the Lutheran Council of the Niagara Frontier. He also served as treasurer on the Town Line Lutheran Council for 18 years.
His family was among the founders of Town Line Lutheran Church in Alden in 1853.
Mr. Wild was treasurer of the Marilla Cemetery Association and a longtime leader of Boy Scout Troop 160.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, the former Leona Mann; a daughter, Martha Marlar; a son, Dr. Daniel R.; and a brother, John R.
A service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Town Line Lutheran Church, 1159 Town Line Road, Alden.
