A memorial service for Eleeta B. Hughes, a retired music teacher, real estate agent and former resident of Grand Island, will be at 2 p.m. June 27 in Trinity United Methodist Church, 2100 Whitehaven Road, Grand Island.
Mrs. Hughes died June 1 in her home. She was 87.
A native of Salt Lake City, the former Eleeta Brown received a bachelor's degree from Wooster College in Ohio and a master's equivalent for music teaching. As a teenager, she sang in a number of operas at Chautauqua Institution.
She later sang regularly as a mezzo-soprano soloist in services at Kenmore Methodist Church and in community operettas.
Mrs. Hughes was employed by the North Tonawanda and Niagara Falls school districts, commuting between schools as a music teacher. She also became a part-time real estate agent when she was in her 40s.
She lived on Grand Island for more than 50 years before she moved to Lewiston.
Her husband, Walter H. II, died in 1991.
Survivors include five daughters, Cynthia Donner, Carol Stancil, Nancy Anna, Sylvia Duprey and Pamela; a son, Walter H. III; and a brother, Carl V. Brown.
