County manager applicants take next step

Twelve applicants for Niagara County manager will undergo background checks and will be asked if they are still interested in the job, the search committee decided Wednesday after two hours of arguing over qualifications.

Local names include Jeffrey M. Glatz, president of the North Tonawanda Board of Education; Harold S. Hopkins, personnel manager of the West Seneca Developmental Center and brother of the late Niagara County Legislator Curtis S. Hopkins; Richard P. Pope, director of the county Refuse Disposal District; and Paul W. Wolf, general counsel to the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority.

Others on the list include Martin D. Murphy, just hired as Cortland County administrator; two Texans, one a current city manager and the other a former city manager; former city managers from Nebraska and Washington; and former county managers from Iowa, New Mexico and Washington.
