Prison term ordered in school theft

The former facilities director of Canisius High School was sentenced to two years and nine months in federal prison Wednesday for stealing more than a half-million dollars from the Buffalo school.

Donald G. Fuller, 49, of Hamburg, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara after pleading guilty to felony crimes of mail fraud and tax evasion.

The judge also ordered Fuller to repay $562,000 to the high school and $150,590 to the Internal Revenue Service.

Fuller admitted that, from 1997 until 2009, he used phony invoices and the DJ Mechanical company, which he owned, to divert school funds to his accounts. He apologized.

An investigation by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the IRS Criminal Investigation Division led to Fuller's arrest in June, Assistant U.S. Attorney Gretchen L. Wylegala said.
