Man pulled from lake after boat overturns

CHAUTAUQUA -- A Union City, Pa., man was rescued from Chautauqua Lake at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday after his boat overturned near Prendergast Point, Chautauqua County sheriff's officials said.

Police said Ronald R. Linkewitz, 72, was in the lake, clinging to the overturned boat. Authorities said Linkewitz was in the water about 25 minutes before rescuers arrived.

Linkewitz, reported to be conscious and coherent after being pulled from the lake, was taken to WCA Hospital in Jamestown for further evaluation.

Suspect accused in rape of girl over nine years

Lackawanna police arrested a man and accused him of having had continual sexual relations with a girl over the last nine years, starting when she was 7 years old, detectives said Wednesday.

Marvin D. Bobbitt, 35, of Wasson Avenue, Lackawanna, is charged with eight felony counts of rape and criminal sexual act. He knew the victim.

Detectives Tia Celestino and Rodney Pietras arrested Bobbitt on Tuesday in his home, following a monthlong investigation.
