The Buffalo Bills took a flier on a speed-burner receiver Wednesday and found out they will face the Indianapolis Colts in Toronto during the preseason.
Free-agent wideout Chad Jackson, the fastest wideout in the 2006 draft, was signed by the Bills. Jackson was the 36th overall pick of the New England Patriots out of the University of Florida. He never panned out for the Pats and sat out the 2009 season after getting cut by Denver.
Meanwhile, the Bills' exhibition schedule includes one game in Ralph Wilson Stadium -- against Cincinnati on the weekend of Aug. 26-29. The Bills play an exhibition in Canada this year as part of their eight-games-in-five-years deal with Rogers Sports and Entertainment, which runs through 2012. That game, against the Super Bowl runner-up Colts, will be at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 19.
The Bills open the preseason at Washington Aug. 12-16. They close it at Detroit on Sept. 2 or 3. Buffalo will face Cincinnati and Detroit in the regular season.
The NFL's regular-season schedule is expected to be released within the next two weeks.
The signing of Jackson could give Buffalo some insurance at receiver. They have only four other veterans who have caught a pass in the regular season -- Lee Evans, James Hardy, Steve Johnson and Roscoe Parrish.
In another move, cornerback Ashton Youboty signed his tender offer the Bills had extended to him last month.
