Carolina 4, Atlanta 1: Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward made a brilliant return after being out nearly two months, while Erik Cole scored a decisive goal with 4:11 left as Carolina dealt a blow to the Thrashers' playoff hopes. Atlanta missed a chance to tie Boston in the East.

Nashville 3, Florida 2 (OT): Francis Bouillon scored a minute into overtime to lift the Predators. Scott Clemmensen stopped 22 shots for the Panthers and Dan Ellis made 27 saves for the Predators.

Minnesota 3, Los Angeles 2: Martin Havlat scored a power-play goal in the third period as the Wild won. The Kings are 0-3-1 in their last four.

Anaheim 3, Dallas 1: Corey Perry scored the game-winner in the second period and the Ducks pulled even with the Stars with 80 points.

San Jose 4, Colorado 3: Devin Setoguchi had two goals, and the Sharks beat the Avalanche without top playmaker Joe Thornton (lower-body injury).

Phoenix Coyotes: The NHL says it has no agreement to move the Coyotes to Winnipeg or anywhere else if owners cannot be found to keep the team in Arizona. Deputy commissioner Bill Daly says that the league's focus remains on keeping the team in Glendale and "based on the communications and information" the NHL is receiving,those involved continue to be highly confident that the transaction can be completed.
