BIGGANE, Barry James

BIGGANE - Barry James Age 57, of Tampa, FL, passed peacefully on Saturday, March 27 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa after a three-year battle with cancer. Born on December 26, 1952 in Buffalo, NY, Barry was one of six children of Robert and Jeanne Biggane. He graduated from Orchard Park High School in 1971 and the University of Buffalo in 1980. He left Buffalo for Florida in 1981 and entered the hospitality industry, first as a host at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in West Palm Beach and then as assistant manager of the High Point Country Club in Lantana. In 1983, Barry accepted a manager's job with the Mexican restaurant chain Casa Gallardo, his entry into the General Mills Corporation. He joined Olive Garden in October 1989. Over the next 21 years he opened 12 restaurants for Olive Garden and won numerous honors. He won the Renaissance Award, signifying the best director at the national level, on five occasions, and the Michelangelo Award, given annually to the top performer in certain categories, seven times. He also served as a teacher and mentor to hundreds of employees. Barry met his wife Anne in 1987 and the two married on February 2, 1991. They had two children, Christianne Marie, born on November 3, 1992 and Ryan Robert, born on June 9, 1994, both of whom are students at Plant High School in Tampa. He enjoyed traveling with his family, particularly numerous cruises and trips to the Florida Keys and Mexico, and was a huge fan of the Buffalo Bills and Sabres. He also was instrumental in organizing numerous family reunions in Lido Key, FL; Ellicottville, NY and the Adirondack Mountains. He is survived by his wife of 19 years and two children and five siblings: Kathleen Elizabeth (Steve) Condon of Schenectady, NY, Brian Scott (Maria) Biggane of Boynton Beach, Beth Ellen (Henry) Palma of Warren, OH, Bonnie Jeanne (Fred) Nuesle of East Aurora, NY and Brendan John (Jennifer) Biggane of Orchard Park, NY. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday at the Blount and Curry Funeral Home, 605 S. MacDill Ave. in Tampa. A Memorial Service will be conducted in Buffalo at a later date. The family requests that donations be made in Barry's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
