Morning Update -- Monday, March 29

Good morning.

Albany's budget deadline looms Wednesday. Tom Precious, of the News Albany Bureau, reports today that Gov. David A. Paterson and state lawmakers remained far apart Sunday on a 2010 budget deal. Meanwhile, Paterson has tossed a last-minute item onto the agenda: a stalled proposal to impose a cap on school and other local property tax increases.

In Amherst, police are investigating the shooting death of an Albany school teacher. David W. Park, 31, was shot inside a Millbrook Court home shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday.

Pine Avenue in Niagara Falls and the Old First Ward in Buffalo were among the places actor James Woods scoped out for a film he plans to produce and direct. Woods left town Sunday after spending three days in the area, News staff Reporter Dan Herbeck reports.
