ALLEN - Loma (nee Moyer)
Rochester, NY on March 23, 2010. She was predeceased by her husband, DeLeslie; and her daughter, Leslie A. Hays. She is survived by her daughter, Loma Allen Clarke (Charleston, SC), and four grandchildren, Loma Moyer "Mimi" Clarke (Los Angeles, CA), Oliver DeRidder (Bettina) Clarke (Randers, Denmark), Henry David (Lynn) Hays (Snowmass, CO), Charles DeLeslie (Keri) Hays (Avon, CO), and six great-grandchildren. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she lived in Buffalo for many years before moving to Rochester in the early 1950s. Loma worked as Conference Coordinator at Colgate-Rochester Divinity School and was Assistant to the President, at Rochester Institute of Technology. She dedicated her life to the Rochester community, volunteering locally and on the national level for over fifty years. She believed that volunteerism was the greatest gift one could give of themselves. Loma was a great lover of the arts; from theater and music to fine arts and crafts. Loma was Co-Founder and the first Vice President of The Urban League of Rochester, she was President of the Baden Street Settlement, The National Federation of Settlement and Neighborhood Centers, and of The Junior League of America. She was a board member of; Planned Parenthood, Family Services of Rochester, The United Way of Greater Rochester, The Chatterbox Club, The Harley School, Valley Manor, and an honorary board member of The Rochester General Hospital Foundation. She was listed in Who's Who of Famous American Women, and lived with independence and involvement before the rest of the world knew women could matter. She was a member of The Chatterbox Club and Third Presbyterian Church. A Memorial Service to rejoice in her life will be held in the chapel at Third Presbyterian Church, 4 Meigs St., Rochester on Friday, May 7th at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
