A Lancaster man with a revoked driver's license is now accused of driving drunk with a different kind of vehicle: a riding lawn mower.
Lancaster police Thursday night responded to a report of a man operating a lawn tractor in the road and interfering with traffic in the village.
Joseph M. Simme, 47, of Sawyer Avenue, was operating the lawn mower on Sheldon Avenue, officers said. Witnesses told police that Simme had been driving the lawn tractor in the road and was nearly struck by passing vehicles when he crossed Walden Avenue.
A computer check revealed that Simme had a revoked license, due to previous DWI convictions, police said. Thursday night, he also was accused of recording a blood-alcohol level of 0.14 percent.
Officers charged Simme with felony driving while intoxicated, felony aggravated unlicensed operation and operating an unregistered motor vehicle in the roadway, according to police reports.
