Olean man accused in theft, possession of stolen guns

OLEAN -- Jonathan E. Fye, 19, of River Street, was arrested Wednesday morning on charges of fourth-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, following an investigation by the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office.

Fye is accused of stealing a gun from a house in the Town of Hinsdale in August and had other guns from the same location, stolen by someone else.

Fye was arraigned in Olean Town Court and remains in Cattaraugus County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.

School bus driver charged with public lewdness

CHERRY CREEK -- A Silver Creek man who drives a Pine Valley school bus was arrested earlier this week on charges of public lewdness and endangering the welfare of a child, state police reported Thursday.

Daniel F. Noody, 33, was allegedly observed in his bus driver's seat exposing himself and acting in a lewd manner on school property at about 7:50 a.m. Monday at Pine Valley Elementary School, police said.

Noody was arraigned and jailed in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 property bond.

Troopers said they are continuing an investigation and ask anyone who has information about the incident or Noody to contact state police at 665-3113.

2 Springville men charged after raid turns up drugs

Two Springville residents were apprehended Wednesday by Erie County sheriff's deputies on various narcotics charges after detectives searched their West Main Street apartment, authorities reported.

Jacob Lux and Jason Cleary, both 33, were charged with felony criminal possession of a narcotic drug with the intent to sell, along with criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, and violation counts of unlawful possession of marijuana and having a controlled substance outside of its original container.

Police, armed with a search warrant, uncovered 88 pills in an unlabeled pill bottle, two glass pipes containing suspected cocaine residue, a spoon with suspected cocaine residue, two bags of marijuana and a pipe containing suspected cocaine residue, according to police reports.

Jail inmate charged in assault on officer

LITTLE VALLEY -- A prisoner in the Cattaraugus County Jail has been charged with assaulting a jail officer who received a shoulder injury during the incident.

Sheriff's investigators determined that Ronald W. Thompson, 41, injured the corrections officer March 17 and he was charged with second-degree assault.

Thompson is being held in the county jail awaiting arraignment in Village Court.

Pile of pot, shotgun seized in Swain; 2 people charged

SWAIN -- Two people were charged this week after state police raided an apartment here March 15 and seized more than 4 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $15,000, a loaded sawed-off shotgun, chuka sticks and drug paraphernalia.

Stephen F. Hopkins, 47, of Dansville, was arrested Thursday. Malena Ozzimo, 28, of Perry, was arrested Wednesday.

Hopkins and Ozzimo were each charged with felony criminal possession of marijuana, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument.

Authorities, armed with a search warrant, entered the apartment on County Road 24 and located the contraband.

State police were assisted by the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force and the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.

Police identify victim in Welland Canal crash

WELLAND, Ont. -- Authorities have released the name of a Welland man who died when his vehicle plunged into the Welland Canal earlier this week.

The victim was identified as Jason Fawcett, 41, of Welland. Fawcett was behind the wheel of his 2004 Ford Explorer when it struck a curb, a parked car and continued across a street, through a church parking lot and hit a concrete abutment before landing in the canal about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Authorities used a crane to pull the vehicle from the canal a short time later. Fawcett was pronounced dead at the scene.
