Read to Succeed Buffalo is seeking professional and nonprofessional artists to participate in the first annual Community Art Project to promote the need for a literate community and family literacy. Submitted work must be a painting, drawing, photograph or illustration. Photographs of three-dimensional work also will be accepted. All submissions must reflect the theme of family literacy and the joy and excitement of reading. Twelve works will be selected and replicated on large banners, no larger than 9-by-12 feet and installed on a variety of buildings throughout the City of Buffalo. Artists should submit a sketch of their proposed work no later than April 15. The Black Rock -- Riverside Tour of Gardens Committee is planning its sixth annual event on Aug. 7 and are again hosting a garden-themed contest.
